SUBJUNCTIVE

Subjunctive adalah bentuk kalimat yang berfungsi untuk menyatakan tentang pengharapan pada masa yang akan datang atau pengharapan yang tidak terwujud pada masa lampau dan masa sekarang.

Subjunctive menggunakan ungkapan-ungkapan seperti:

-          Wish

-          If only

-          As if/ as though

-          Would rather

Jenis-jenis Subjunctive:

1.       Future Subjunctive

Pengharapan pada masa yang akan datang.

Dalam Future Subjunctive ini, kita dapat menggunakan adverb of time seperti: tonight, tomorrow, next.., soon, later. Etc. 

Wish Would rather If only As if/ as though

+that + S + would + inf

e.g:

ü  We wish he could come here tomorrow.

ü  I wish you would tell us soon.

2.       Present Subjunctive

Pengharapan yang tidak terwujud pada masa sekarang. Untuk menyatakannya kita dapat

menggunakan adverb of time seperti: today, now, rightnow, at this time, at this moment.

Wish Would rather If only As if/ as though

+that + S + V2/ were

 e.g:

ü  Nawi sings as though he were Maher Zein.

ü  Everyone wishes they passed the final test now.

3.       Past Subjunctive

Pengharapan yang tidak terwujud pada masa lampau. Untuk menyatakannya kita dapat menggunakan

adverb of time seperti: yesterday, last …, …ago, etc.

Wish Would rather If only As if/ as though

+that + S + had + V3

 e.g:

ü  Indra wished he had gone to bed last night.

ü  Anton spoke as though they had been a great speaker.
